OPERA CULTURA VOCAL RESIDENY PROGRAM - San Jose High School

Currently, there is no vocal program at San Jose High School. It is a school with few arts resources and its
student population is mostly Latino (75%). The director of the school’s Mariachi Program, Sofia Fojas, has
sought to further develop the student’s vocal skills and expose them to other musical styles.

Beginning in January 2010, Opera Cultura provide
d a 20 week artist in residency program at San Jose High
School and the commissioning of a new vocal work for the students by Hector Armienta.

The residency c
ulminatted into performance by the students at their annual May concert and at MACLA in
May of 2010. They p

This program w

.
OPERA CULTURA SUMMER CONSERVATORY PROGRAM

The primary mission of the summer conservatory is to provide skills in the performing arts (voice, theater,

resources in the past. However, the conservatory is open to all young people.  The program h

d in late June 2010. It will continue
next year. It was made possible by a generous grant from the Castellano Family Foundation, and Applied
